Before surgery, we ask all Colorado Bariatric Surgery patients to complete some specific requirements that will help them achieve weight-loss success. Surgery is only one component of a successful weight-loss treatment plan, it also is important to participate in exercise, nutrition and support programs to realize your weight-loss goals.
Exercise In addition to diet modifications, exercise is important to your treatment plan. Learn More about Exercise Plans and Start Planning Your Exercise Program Now>>>
Medication ModificationAfter surgery, there will most likely be some adjustments to your medications. In some cases, many medications will be completely discontinued.
Nutrition ClassColorado Bariatric Surgery works with Kelly Elliot at Bariatric Nutrition Resources, a registered dietitian who specializes in nutrition for bariatric surgery patients. Before surgery we ask our patients to participate in one of Kelly’s nutrition classes. In the class, patients learn about diet and supplement plans to follow post-surgery. (For example, no more than two ounces or ¼ cup of food at any one time, and do not exceed three meals a day.) You also will be asked to begin a diet log that will be used before and continued after surgery.
Psychological EvaluationIn addition to being physically healthy for bariatric surgery, patients also must be mentally prepared for the significant life changes that come along with it. Colorado Bariatric Surgery will help you set up a psychological evaluation to help determine if this type of procedure is appropriate at this time.
SupportCreating a support network will help ensure your success. Start by participating in one of our free informational seminars and making plans to participate in our support groups following surgery. Also, begin talking to friends and family about your goals and ask for their support throughout the process.
